The Picture of Grace

Whatever come along: Mary is always there!

Jesus and Mary belong together; this is how it is depicted in the Schoenstatt’s image of grace. For Father Kentenich this was decisive when he had the donated picture placed in the small chapel in April 1915.

The original painting is by the Italien painter Luigi Crosio (+1915). He gave it the title „Refugium peccatorum“- Refuge of Sinners. In Schoenstatt Mary is venerated as the Mother Thrice Admirable of Schoenstatt. This title goes back to the Jesuit Father Jakob Rem (+1618) from Ingolstadt. Father Kentenich took it over in the conviction: From Schoenstatt, the Blessed Mother wants to show herself miraculously in many ways – to the people who turn to her and through them in all areas in which they live and work.

In the course of the historical development of the Schoenstatt Movement, the title underwent a life extension: Mother Thrice Admirable, Queen and Victress. As Queen at the side of Christ, the King, Mary teaches us to ask anew every day for the will of God. The title Victress was formed after many people, who had turned to her in great need, experienced her help very clearly.
